Locally harvested 100% merino sheepskin. I bought these from a butcher/tannery at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival a few years ago. These lovelies were leftover at the end of the festival, and I had grand ideas about dyeing them. Now I have come to love them more in their natural color, and now I can share them with you.
These skins come from sheep that were sold for meat. Of course, I’d prefer for every sheep to live long enough to be sheared, munch grass, and frolic in perpetuity. The reality is that small farmers, sometimes have to sell sheep for meat. I think that using the skins, as well as the meat, is practical and minimizes waste.
