Shift Supervisor
Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service and contribute to our supportive and welcoming community space
- Assist customers in the selection of yarn, projects, and tools
- Check out customers
- Answer knitting and/or crochet related questions and fixing knitting and/or crochet mistakes
- Assist in management of tasks assigned to other retail associates
- Communicate daily store happenings (e.g. sales information, relevant customer interactions, personnel and/or maintenance issues, etc.) to management
- Open & close the store
- Restock shelves – yarn, needles and notions
- Maintain order and organization of backstock yarn
- Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of store
Core competencies:
- multitasking skills
- self starter/initiative
- knowledge of knitting and/or crochet
- previous retail or customer service experience
- a warm and welcoming demeanor
- ability to multi-task and complete a number of small projects while also assisting customers with yarn selection
- experienced Ravelry user (or willingness to become one)
- ability to assist with pattern reading and correcting mistakes
- knowledge of yarn gauge, fibre characteristics and pattern terminology
- able to work quickly and accurately in our point of sale system
- ability to work on major holidays (i.e., day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve)
- spinning and weaving experience a plus
Availability:
- Must be available to work Fridays and Saturdays from 9:45 am to 6:15 pm
- Additional short shift (4 hours) another day during the week (M-Th)
Job Knowledge:
- Maintain knowledge of current patterns and trends in the industry
- Take initiative to know about new products in the store
- Maintain current knowledge of yarn inventory
- Able to knowledgeably answer customer inquiries about our yarns
- Work to improve knitting and crochet skills
- Knowledgeable about online resources
- Knowledgeable about new content to our website
- Maintain communication with production staff and retail staff
Efficiency and Effectiveness of Work:
- Able to assist customers to securing a suitable pattern or project idea
- Able to locate comparable Neighborhood Fiber Co. yarns for the pattern they have chosen
- Able to help customers put together color palettes
- Able to troubleshoot knit & crochet problems
- Ability to multi-task on the sales floor and behind the register
- Able to perceive customer reactions and attitudes and adjust accordingly
- Work quickly and efficiently on register
- Efficiently and accurately label and put out yarn and other products
- Assist in maintaining a neat and tidy shop
- Effectively restock and tidy shelves
- Appropriately use time during slower periods
- Competent and thorough in opening procedures
- Competent and thorough in closing procedures
Customer Relations:
- Create sense of community and welcoming atmosphere in the shop
- Provide equal attention to new and existing customers.
- Employee is comfortable dealing with customer concerns/criticisms
- Employee takes initiative to offer customers additional resources/services
