Ann Weaver's Sommerfeld Shawl is inspired by Bauhaus artist Josef Albers' window designs of the early 1920's for the Sommerfeld Residence in Berlin. The Sommerfeld Shawl is a log-cabin-esque grouping of stitches and colors in Neighborhood Fiber Co.'s luxurious kid mohair and silk yarn, Loft. While any grouping of four full skeins of Loft will suffice, the dye artisans of Neighborhood Fiber Co. have put together some choice color combinations.
Each of the four Loft skeins is 60% kid mohair/40% silk; 350 yards/1 oz; 4-8 sts/inch US 3-8.
The Sommerfeld Shawl shown here is in the Hollins Market, Woodberry, Belair, Swoon color combination.
Subtle color variations are achieved through kettle dyeing.
We recommend hand washing with Eucalan in cool water, as other brands of wool wash have had adverse effects on our yarn. Lay flat to dry.
